The Royal Wedding is Almost Here! Are you Ready?

Jolly Old London is a bustling place these days thanks to William and Kate. Today KSBY News came to Vintage Etc. to do a local story of how Will and Kate's nuptials are being celebrated in America. Here's a quick look at the interview process.

Remnants of the Past Show

 
It's almost here! Can you feel the excitement in the air....in just a few days, on Saturday, April 30th will be the Remnants of the Past Vintage Show (ROPT). 40 + vendors selling their finest wares, and the displays, oh boy, are they gorgeous! 

It's inspiration overload!

I had to be out of town during the last Remnants show (the Fall one) so these photos are from the different vendors booths at last Springs show, aren't they just amazing? I wish I could find my list that told you who's booth is in each photo.  I promise I will do better next time!

 

We hope to see you there, we wont have a booth but we will be shopping! Just in case you can't remember what we look like, we will be the ones drooling over all of the yummy goodness! Enjoy!

Historic Home Tour

The Atascadero Historical Societies Annual Colony Home Tour is almost here! April 30th from 1-4pm you can see 5 beautiful homes built between 1916 and 1927. Each home is uniquely different and this year is no exception! If you love old homes and seeing how people decorate them, then take this tour. The cost is $20.00 per person and includes refreshments at one of the house locations. You can purchase tickets at the Atascadero Historical Society House or (I think) through the Chamber of Commerce. 

2 years ago we were asked to be on this tour. Our house was built in 1915 by the F.O. Ingstrum Company as a home for the contractor who was sent here to build our towns City Hall and Printery which are about 2 blocks away. We have been lovingly restoring it for the last 7 years, taking on projects as we could afford them, and doing every bit of work ourselves. It had been a dentist office and a preschool previous to our ownership and the dentist office had removed some of the original detail work and changed the layout of the house. We started fixing, and then found out that I was pregnant with our little girl. Talk about great motivation to finish all of our projects around the house! We finished painting our living room/dining room and got carpet throughout the house 3 days before my daughter was born! We still have a wish list to do, but we love how it turned out. When I am at the shop, I get asked all the time what my house looks like inside. So this is the living room and dining room, picked up and ready to go. Keep checking back, I will be posting the rest of the house as well!

The glass on the light over our dining room table was out of my Grandma's old house and was rescued by my mom when they were tearing it down. The fixture that holds it was from a friend. It fits together perfectly, some things are just meant to be!

My pottery collection. Looking at this photo I am realizing how much more pottery I have now than I did 2 years ago. I think I like to shop, hmmmm...

Being on the home tour was loads of fun, and we learned a lot of interesting things about our house from people who had been former residents, or their friends who had visited our home in their youth.

A note of Thanks...

I just wanted to write a note of thanks to a very special girl. One who I could not do without. She is my other half in the store and yes, she too is family! My cousin, Cherise. I wouldn't have made it through the last 4 months without all of her hard work.

 Many of you have met her in the store and whats great is how many people have asked me if we are sisters. She is an amazing employee, loads of fun to work with, and a great saleswoman! So thank you "cuz," the Lord has definitely blessed me with you! Without her we couldn't have done any of this.

Vintage finds in unlikely places

About a week ago, my husband was working on his car and had a bolt that was stuck. He needed a hefty vice to remove the bolt and asked if I could think of anyone who might have one. My Dad's shop came to mind and so we called him up and made a mad dash out to his ranch to use it. While we were there my short attention span led me to start exploring the old outbuildings and barns that I used to play in as a child. It is amazing how the years change our perspective...you know, all that stuff you used to see as "old, dirty  junk in the barn" now you see as "beautiful, great, and I can use that for something, treasures!" Eureka! I started gathering and much to my surprise my dad told me to take it. ALL of it! I was so excited that I made my husband drive home and get the trailer so we could haul it home! So here is some new "old junk" that will be finding its way into both my garden and the store...

I think my husband called this a "bait and tackle" yeah, I don't know, it is just really cool, and I just love the old wood dairy boxes!

 

This sweet pink bike was mine when I was a kid, but don't get your hopes up on this one making it to the store. A sweet 6 year old I know has already claimed it!

 

A chippy old door...(I see a project coming soon!)

A orchard ladder and an old screen door, which may end up on my house if it is the right size!

And then there were some items I didn't bring home but now am having second thoughts about..

Hmmm, I guess that means I will just have to make another trip! I think I can handle the scenery again. I love Spring in the country!
